Nigeria: Power – Insecurity Threatens 6,000 Megawatts Target – House

The House of Representatives Committee on Gas has raised an alarm that the dream of Nigeria become a mirage unless something tangible was done to restore law and order and stamp out criminality in the Niger Delta.

Aguma, said the major challenge facing the oil and gas sector in Nigeria is security and lamented that three strategic gas plants had been forcefully shut down due to insecurity.
Aguma disclosed this at the Business Dialogue organised by the House of Representatives Committees on Petroleum, Gas and Power in collaboration with Acorn Petroleum.

According to Aguma, the plants namely Soku, Utorogun and Oben had been shut down due to insecurity and acts of vandalism visited on the plants by criminal elements in the region. He disclosed that there were about 100 bunkering points on the Soku gas pipeline alone, adding that the companies in charge of these plants had complained about not getting enought cooperation from security agencies in their efforts to halt the activities of these criminals.
