A nation in decay

…Several examples demonstrate our collective failure.

First, our transportation infrastructure is crumbling. The proliferation of toll roads in our own front yards demonstrates how our state government has mismanaged the gasoline tax and failed to plan.

Similarly, airline delays grow because the federal government has ignored the looming air traffic control system crisis.


Next, our government service sector is crumbling. From education to social services, it seems every local, state and national bureaucracy provides fewer services with larger budgets and more bodies. The newspaper is filled with stories about local budget shortfalls, accompanied by tales like the tragic comedy of the Dallas Housing Authority, which paid its executive director almost $100,000 for doing a miserable job.

Finally, nothing screams collective failure like the complete lack of a national energy policy. I find it inexcusable that it has been more than 30 years since the first energy crisis, but no administration
