China a net importer of gasoline for the first time in May

China became a net importer of gasoline for the first time in May as the cap on oil product prices discouraged refiners from processing increasingly expensive crude oil and the summer harvest and preparations for the August Beijing Olympic Games increased gasoline demand.

China imported 338,572 tons of gasoline in May and exported 160,000 tons, according to the General Administration of Customs.
