Argentinean President: The region needs Venezuela’s oil reserves

Argentinean President Cristina Fernandez de Kirchner Tuesday advocated Venezuela’s membership in the Common Market of the South (Mercosur) so that its energy reserves may sustain regional economic growth, and denied claims that her country was on the verge of an energy crisis.

“We need Venezuela to be present in the Latin American energy equation to achieve sustainable growth,” the ruler said in a ceremony in the House of Government, AFP reported.


“I have said this in every tribune, and sometimes this has been understood as a defense of its (Venezuela’s) President (Hugo Chavez), but in fact this is pure rationality regarding energy,” added Fernandez de Kirchner.
