Gazprom eyes Southeastern Europe

Russia has clinched a deal to construct the South Stream pipeline to supply more gas to Southeastern Europe in a project that the West views as another attempt by the Kremlin to boost its energy clout in the region. Russia has responded with promises to increase gas exports to energy-dependent Europe, despite warnings of possible shortages back at home.
