Gas prices fuel bus ridership

With gas prices sticking around the $3-a-gallon mark, public transportation is packing in more and more riders.

“We have continued to see an increase,” said Gina Douthat, director of communications and development for the Transit Authority of Northern Kentucky.

TANK, which is heavily focused on serving Northern Kentucky commuters bound for downtown Cincinnati, has seen an average ridership increase of about 4 percent each month through May.

On the Ohio side, Metro had a 4.2 percent ridership increase for May compared with figures from the same month a year ago.
