Royal Philips Electronics believes that new lighting technology available today can help save of up to US$143 billion on energy costs and reduce carbon dioxide output by 592 million tones annually.
This is equivalent to 1,560 million barrels of oil yearly, said Theo van Deursen, CEO of Philips Lighting, in a statement announcing the company’s global partnership with Live Earth in a campaign to combat global warming.
The partnership will enable Philips to join Live Earth to inspire over two billion people worldwide to take steps to lead a more energy efficient lifestyle.
Live Earth brings together more than two billion people on July 7, 2007 through concerts in New York, London, Sydney, Tokyo, Shanghai, Rio de Janeiro, Johannesburg, Hamburg and Istanbul to bring greater awareness on the climate crisis.
