Brown prepares to go nuclear on energy

Gordon Brown is to risk a backlash from environment campaigners and the Labour Left by endorsing a blueprint for a new generation of nuclear power stations.

The programme, coupled with a big expansion in renewable energy, will be spelt out in the Government’s White Paper on energy to be published on Wednesday.
