Analysts want clearer picture on PetroChina discovery data

David Johnson and Vivian Wong of Macquarie said in a report titled Too High, Too Soon, the “share price increase has been overdone and there is some risk of a correction once more details of the discovery are announced.”

They questioned how PetroChina came up with figures so quickly as it usually “takes 12 to 15 months of analysis before details of a find of this size can be announced with confidence and many large discoveries have been downgraded after further appraisal.”
