Bangladesh plans to introduce a proposal on energy trade at a meeting of Saarc energy ministers to be held in New Delhi on March 7.
“We know that there is huge potential for energy trade, especially hydro electricity among Saarc countries. We want to introduce energy trade in the region…however, we have never tabled it,” Tapan Chowdhury, the adviser on energy and mineral resources said in Dhaka.
At a media briefing at his secretariat office, he said, South Asian countries are preparing the agenda including the establishment of an energy ring. The Delhi meet will also discuss the previous agenda for the establishment of a Saarc Energy Centre in Islamabad, he added.
