Canada sets 1.28 billion dollars to fight climate change

OTTAWA (AFP) – Canada’s Prime Minister Stephen Harper announced a fund worth 1.5 billion dollars (1.28 billion US) to fight climate change through various domestic efforts.

The money will be contained in his Conservative government’s upcoming budget, and distributed to provincial governments to use to stem carbon emissions linked to global warming, Harper said at a press conference.

“Each province has its own energy profile and its own priorities,” Harper told reporters.

“The obligation to reduce pollutants and greenhouse gas emissions must be standard across the provinces. But the solutions have to be adapted to their specific circumstances.”
