GM Picks Hybrid Battery Partners

GM wants to double the fuel efficiency of the SUV and has committed to lithium ion batteries as the technology of choice.

GM has contracted with two competing research teams — Johnson Controls/Saft Advanced Power Solutions and Cobasys/A123Systems — to develop a battery system for its future Saturn Vue Green Line plug-in hybrid. Testing will begin later this year for the two battery systems that feature different chemistry and packaging.
