Move over solar and make way wind, because wave power is on the horizon and international energy companies along with local governments are lining up to cash in when the market crests.
Proponents of wave energy say that if you were to capture a tenth of one percent of the ocean’s wave energy, you’d have five times more energy than the world’s total energy consumption.
“When you think about the potential of power without destroying natural resources, it’s well worth it,” Lincoln County Commissioner Terry Thompson said. “If we get the technology in place it could be our next major industry.”
The technology doesn’t come cheap. The power lines that run from the buoys to the shore cost about $1 million per mile.
