Exxon Mobil chief keeps hunting for more oil, lower costs and higher profits

Rex Tillerson used his four-year tenure managing drilling at Exxon Mobil Corp. to hunt for oil in remote environs such as Madagascar and Chad.

Tillerson sought out the biggest untapped fields and adopted faster drilling techniques to keep equipment expenses down. Now, in his first full year as chief executive officer, that strategy has paid off.
