Airlines the world over are hiking fuel surcharge on tickets as they grapple with high fuel costs. The surcharge on international air fares has been rising steadily over the past year; it has now increased to $135 (Rs 6,210) per direction for flights to North America on airlines like United Airlines.
International carriers are likely to raise the surcharge by the end of this month, sources said. Singapore Airlines began the trend last week, upping the surcharge on its North American routes by $30 to $90 per direction
