Eight wind turbines set for Lackawanna site

An energy company building a wind farm along the Lake Erie waterfront purchased eight wind turbines and plans to pay the City of Lackawanna rent to install them on the former Bethlehem Steel site, the company said.

The 260-foot structures will be the largest wind turbines assembled in the U.S., the manufacturer said in a press release.

Measuring to the tip of the revolving blades, the turbines will tower 410 feet, said Paul Curran, directing manager of BQ Energy, which will own the wind farm.

The city struck a deal with the Pawling-based company to receive $12,500 per turbine, or $100,000 a year, for a 15-year period.
