Since the 1980s, over 5,500 Siemens wind turbines have been installed worldwide. Randy Zwirn, president and CEO of Siemens Westinghouse, recently talked with Houston Chronicle reporter Lynn J. Cook about growth in the sector.
Q: Let’s talk about pricing.
Is wind energy actually competitive today with other types of electricity generation?
A: With higher gas prices, wind has become more competitive.
From an investment standpoint, wind is moving from a developing industry to a more mature industry. It’s competitive as part of an overall mix of generation, but it’s not going to compare to, say, building a new coal-fired power plant.
