07/10 (LWN) Recent newspaper reports have indicated increasing oil production in two African countries, Uganda and Sudan.
It was reported by Uganda’s Monitor newspaper that Uganda has built new roads, three airports, and other facilities “to herald Uganda’s joining the world’s oil producing countries.” The newspaper indicated that new schools have been built and clean drinking water made available, improving the lives of local people in the new oil-producing area. It is expected that Uganda will be able to extract 10,000 barrels/day from one of the new oil wells, and an additional unknown quantity from two other wells which have yet to be tested. According to another article in the same newspaper, Kuwaiti investors have expressed great interest in exploration of Ugandan oil reserves.
