On Sunday, Iran’s supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khameni said that Iran would be willing to disrupt oil supplies if the US made any misstep during the negotiations process aimed at ending Iran’s uranium enrichment program. US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice, commented on Khameni’s remarks by saying Iran was too dependent on earnings from crude oil to allow for a drop off in production. We would like to add that it would be a bad move for Iran if they were to stop selling crude oil at the current all-time high prices.
Iran has already warned repeatedly of disrupting the oil supply if they are attacked, but what if Iran decides to cut oil supplies due to threats from the international community? The Iranian oil cartel could at any time decide to wage an oil price war while holding a position on the high ground. Iran is currently open to negotiations, but will not accept preconditions for any offers.
