Royal projects a solution to oil crisis

The people of Thailand are deeply concerned about the energy crisis facing the country, but most believe that the use of appropriate technology – following the model of Royally-initiated energy-saving projects – can help to solve the problem, a survey by the ABAC Poll Research Center found.

The poll, conducted from May 13 to 25, revealed that most people valued and overwhelmingly supported His Majesty the King’s projects, especially those related to energy conservation and alternative energy sources.

Of 2,794 respondents in Bangkok and major provinces, nearly 98 percent said the country was facing an energy crisis, with 62 percent rating it as very severe. Nearly 85 percent said they were aware of the national energy shortage. About 65 percent believed the crisis could be solved through the proper use of technology, while just over 11 percent disagreed, and 22 percent did not comment.

The respondents put oil in first place on a list of energy sources in crisis, followed by electricity, water and natural gas respectively.
