Profits at Cumbrian companies are continuing to be dogged by spiralling energy costs – triggering fears about their impact on jobs and pay.
Concerns are emerging about what the future could hold for firms if action is not taken to stop rising fuel prices hitting their balances.
Steel giant Corus – which plans to shut its Workington factory in August with the loss of 256 jobs – yesterday became the latest company to blame higher energy costs for falling profits.
