Brazil May Substitute Bolivian Gas With Ethanol

Rigzone – Gas-fired thermoelectric power plants in Brazil could be switched to run on sugarcane-based ethanol to lessen the dependence on natural gas supplies from Bolivia, the Estado de S.Paulo newspaper reported Thursday.

Tests in recent months by state-run oil firm Petroleo Brasileiro SA (PBR), or Petrobras, to substitute gas with ethanol in the power plants were positive, the newspaper said, citing unidentified sources who were present for the tests.
