As a new member from oil-rich Alberta, Canada, I’m also aware that even our vast resources within the Athabasca Tar Sands is finite and will be exhausted in the not too distant future.
I recently took a tour of the huge Syncrude project on Septermber 17 this year. Current extraction (at huge expense) is about 500,000 barrels/ day with the major players being Syncrude, Suncor, Shell, Petro-Canada, Imperial Oil.

Much as the huge investment has boosted the Economy of Edmonton, Calgary, and Alberta as a whole with the massive royalties, it will on day be part of history and all those big machines and refineries will sit in a wasteland of sand….not another barrel of oil will be there to exploit.
Current recoverable reserves are about 250 Billion barrels with another 1.4 billion unrecoverable, making it the largest single oil deposit on the earth.
