Nigerian President Olusegun Obasanjo has decided to call a meeting next week aimed at resolving the four-month crisis in the southern oil-rich Niger Delta that has cut the country’s oil production by a quarter, his spokeswoman Oluremi Oyo said on Tuesday.
Obasanjo is due to convene the meeting, titled Leaders of Thought of the Niger Delta, on April 5 following the release of three foreign oil workers held hostage for more than one month in the Niger Delta, where the majority of the country’s 2.5 million barrels of oil per day is produced.
