Stormers Get the Power

Besieged by furious consumers over unexpected power cuts crippling the Peninsula, the City of Cape Town is promising just two things: an accurate schedule of planned outages – and guaranteed power for the Stormers game at Newlands on Friday night.

The bad news is that Eskom has now said the power cuts will continue until the weekend – and it is not clear when the city’s schedule will be available.

..Some areas were without power for up to seven hours and other areas had power for only eight hours in the past three days.

Canal Walk shopping mall was plunged into darkness when the power went off at about 5pm.

Most of the shops in the mall had to close.

The centre management and tenants tried to make contact with the city to get details on how long the blackout would last, but said they could not reach anyone.
