Energy independence is tough and getting tougher

WASHINGTON

“The goal is energy independence,” White House economic adviser Al Hubbard said Wednesday in a conference call with reporters.

You’ve probably heard that before.

Ever since President Richard Nixon launched Project Independence in 1974 (which was supposed to bring energy independence by 1980), oil analysts and economists have argued that it’s unrealistic.
