NiMo warns next deep freeze will require deeper pockets

Tight supplies and growing worldwide demand for fuel means consumers can expect to pay double-digit increases when the temperature drops.


Natural gas prices are expected to rise up to 15 percent and while heating oil prices are a bit harder to predict, analysts already note that prices have risen at least 20 percent over last year.

“We feel an obligation to caution our customers of the expected higher bills,” said Joseph Ash Jr., vice president for energy supply at Niagara Mohawk, the region’s largest supplier of natural gas.
