Russian gas monopolist Gazprom has sent a new letter calling for changes in the contract signed with Bulgaria.
Bulgaria’s Economy and Energy Minister Rumen Ovcharov explained that the in its letter to Bulgargaz of January 26, Russia’s Gazprom does not bind negotiations on revising Russian gas deliveries and transit to a decrease in deliveries.
Talking in Parliament Ovcharov underlined that Gazprom’s letter is a medial step in a direction for the guarantee of the national interests both in short and longterm plan.
Under the contract for gas supply from Russia to Bulgaria signed in 1998, the Balkan country pays some USD 120 per 1,000 cube meters of gas. Though the agreement has a term until 2010, the two countries are expected to start talks to review the terms of supply.
Now, the trading price may bulge to USD 260. More than 97% of gas used in Bulgaria is supplied from Russia.
