DES MOINES — Republicans introduced legislation Tuesday that would set aside $5 million for incentives to increase the use of fuels made up of an 85 percent ethanol blend.
If the measure is approved, the number of pumps dispensing the fuel would increase by about 1,800 over the next nine years, supporters said.
The measure also includes tax incentives for biodiesel sales, and sets a goal that 20 percent of all fuel sold in the state be renewable by 2020.
“E85 is the fuel of the future,” said Senate Republican Leader Stewart Iverson, of Clarion. “Senate Republicans want to help prime the pump by ensuring more E85 outlets are available across the state.”
