The Government should put up cash to prop up the ailing coal industry to help keep Britain’s lights on, a West Yorkshire MP said.
Colin Burgon MP (Lab, Elmet) urged ministers to offer loans or loan guarantees to ensure that the country’s industry was not lost forever.
He made the call in the House of Commons during a debate on moves to make sure the UK has enough energy sources to meet demand, as the supply of gas is put under threat and its cost spirals out of control.
