Variety of oil, gas plays developing around Basin

With the world increasingly thirsty for crude oil and natural gas, producers continue to explore the Permian Basin for new reserves. “One of the big plays (recently) has been the Devonian horizontal play in the Central and Delaware Basins,” said Sandy Rushworth with IHS Energy of Houston. “It has high initial potentials, 500 to 1,900 barrels of oil per day.”

Producers, she said, are doing a lot of development work like in the Morrow, which is a fairly new trend and is showing rising production rates. But, she said, “what operators are doing is keeping production steady.” Successful development of the Barnett Shale in the region, she said, could have an impact on the region’s production.
